If you’ve been following along on Instagram then you already know that I’m just after arriving home from my THIRD cruise (my fifth to date – can you believe it?) with the incredible Princess Cruises team.
Knowing I would finally be sailing alongside my hubby and that we’d actually be getting to experience the recently launched MedallionClass, I was probably more excited for this Caribbean cruise than any other. Now, I don’t know about you but I generally try to keep my expectations in check to avoid being disappointed (a little something the SATC movies taught me) but I can honestly say that this particular vacation not only lived up to but actually surpassed all of my unintentionally high hopes.
As much as I understand that you can never really attribute the success of a trip (or anything else for that matter) to any one thing, I’m still shocked by just how much MedallionClass added to our overall experience – I guess I’m what you’d call the skeptical type!
We’re all familiar with the old saying “time flies when you’re having fun” (and somehow it seems to pick up even more speed when we’re on vacay) but after years of R&D the Princess Cruises team has achieved the impossible – yep they’ve figured out how to give us more time and more ways to enjoy our time at sea. Created to help guests make the very most of their vacation, you’ll love MedallionClass because . . .
* * *
The size of a quarter, your complimentary OceanMedallion is an easy-to-use, wearable device that eliminates the need for pesky cruise cards – um, am I the only one who kept losing and/or demagnetizing those? With the ability to be worn in a variety of ways (think sportsband, bracelet or pendant) you never have to worry about forgetting your OceanMedallion plus you can use it for everything from accessing your statement to paying for drinks and even expediting the boarding process. Something Ted and I very quickly learned? Less time curbside = more time poolside!
Giving you access to the very best Wi-Fi at sea, MedallionNet delivers land-like connectivity so you can stay connected on-board no matter where you’re texting, streaming or posting from. If you’re anything like me then chances are you’re finding this more than a little hard to believe (and clearly I don’t blame you – again with the skepticism) but we were able to transfer photos, post to Instagram, stream the final episodes of Ozark’s season two and FaceTime Maddie (our fur-beast) without even the slightest issue. Honestly, for Ted and I, knowing we could access and successfully respond to any pressing work stuff was probably the greatest benefit of all. I realize how lame that sounds but that level of connectivity really allowed us to breathe easy knowing we wouldn’t be leaving colleagues in the lurch or incurring the wrath of overworked bosses.
By seamlessly working alongside a number of fun apps, your OceanMedallion opens up a whole new world of possibilities – seriously, start downloading ‘em and you’ll suddenly have that song from Aladdin stuck in your head all day! Anyways, here’s a quick run down of the apps we loved and used most:
- OceanNow. If there’s only one app you download (and I genuinely think you should try ‘em all – again, I was seriously skeptical) then make it this one. With OceanNow you can order everything from french fries to extra pillows direct to you. So next time you’re sipping cocktails poolside and suddenly get a craving for tacos you know exactly what to do.
- OceanCompass. I’m not sure what I loved most about this app, how it actively guides you around the ship (great when you’re as geographically challenged as this girl) and actually helps you to locate friends and family members OR the fact that it allows you to chat with those same people via something similar to Instagram’s direct Messenger.
- Play Ocean. This one is primarily meant for the kiddos but eager to get the full MedallionClass experience Ted and I decided to give it a go and surprisingly had a ton of fun with it! Granted, we’re the same people who got super into Pokemon Go and still play WORD during our commute but the ship-wide scavenger hunts and giant poolside screens make this feature pretty amazing. Even better yet, it’s 100% complimentary. Personally, I really enjoyed creating my OceanTagalong (a fully customizable digital companion/character that interacts with you around the ship and represents you throughout the different games) and then using it to kick Ted’s butt in the different racing competitions. Clearly we weren’t the only ones loving this feature either – throughout our time on board we saw lots of families using the scavenger hunts to familiarize themselves with the ship and others playing a quick game of word scramble to pass the time while waiting for the elevator.
Dying to experience MedallionClass for yourself? I can’t blame ya! Happily, I can tell you that it’s officially launched on a whole host of ships (meaning you can enjoy benefit after benefit en route to incredible destinations like Alaska, New Zealand and, of course, The Caribbean) and is continuing to roll on out!
