With my schedule as jam packed as it has been lately I’ve had to get creative when it comes to my style. One minute I could be sitting at my desk, the next running errands and right after that attending a meeting or a blogging event where I don’t want to look completely out of place in my Lulu yoga pants and Nikes i.e. the uniform I’ve adopted since realizing that the majority of my work could be done from the comfort of my very own home.
Today, I’d like to say I’ve pretty much mastered the art of creating two very different looks using the same basics of one ensemble and surprisingly few accessories. Take this PoisonKS dress for instance. Here I’ve styled it two ways; casual but cute for a day of errands in the city and simple but glamorous for a night of wining and dining with some of Boston’s finest StyleMakers.
Taking this look from day to night is simple and requires few accessories which is great because I already carry everything but the kitchen sink in my every day bag – think DSLR, Whitney English Planner, iPad and much much more. In fact I had more taking off than piling on to do in the end . . .
. . . To really switch things up I simply brought a change of shoes, a small crossbody bag in a vivid hue (I’m all about amping it up come evening time) and of course a tote large enough to fit those things – which I always have with me anyways – as well as the casual summer sweater and tortoiseshell necklace I decided were more appropriate for coffee than cocktails.
Because I was meeting my husband beforehand it was easy for me to ditch the larger carryall but obviously I’m not always lucky enough to get a chauffeur for the night and if you’re the same then I’d recommend leaving the big boy at work OR always making sure it’s just cute enough to bring to that restaurant or bar! There’s typically an option to check bulkier items anyways and even if there’s not people won’t judge – especially if it’s an after work event.
See how easy that was? There really is no need to stress the situation OR your back by lugging an additional outfit plus accessories all over town.
And, just because I have to ask, which look did you like most? Day or night?
